I was having some trouble finding current information or reviews of this jointer, most of what I found was from the early 2000's and not very positive. The issues they noted included: quality control problems, shipping damage, beds that were not close to co-planer, fence that was not square, no instruction manual and poor customer service. The one recent review I was able to find said Laguna had done a 360 and none of these were issues currently. I purchased the jointer from Beaver (was my first purchase). The order was shipped the next day and by 1100 I received a phone call from the shipper so they could deliver it!!! Amazon is not that fast !! The jointer arrived well crated with no damage noted. I opened the crates and started assembly, a complete owners manual was included. Assembly was easy and quick. I noticed the fence was not parallel with the bed so I loosened the two screws and adjusted it. I brought out the dial indicator afraid of the work I was certain I was going to have to do, and the out-feed table was 0.001 out with the top of the jointer blade. I raised the indeed bed and it was 0.002 out in the back corner, removed the cover, loosened the set screw and moved the cam up. Checked the other three sides of the table and that was that. Turned it on and started working, smooth surface with no tear out on figured woods. The machine is quiet, quieter when running stock. I did have to adjust the fence to square it 90 degrees to the bed but this process was simple. Dust collection is excellent and guard functions as it should. In fact the only thing I did notice that I did not like was a small plastic indent on the fence that can catch the tip of the board if you pass stock through at an angle, haven't figured a fix for this but if you run the boards square aginst the fence its a non issue. I also had to take a fine bastard file and roll the edges around the entire bed to get rid of the burr from manufacturing (but I've had to do this to just about every tool in my shop). Great job Laguna !! Also Beaver supply is going to get my business going forward!
