I've been using this jointer for six months and absolutely love it. The helical head provides smooth and quiet performance. Powers through hardwoods with ease. I like it so much I gussied it up with a custom blade guard. My only small complaint is where the on/off switches are mounted...I wish Powermatic would have mounted them above and behind the infeed bed.

It just does not get any better than this. Everything went together without a hitch. It is handy to have two people on some of the heavier parts. The belt was a bit of a challenge but that yielded to persistence. The cut is smoooooth. All the adjustment work properly. I have never felt a need for more power and it gets used constantly. After 2.5 years it is still on its original set of cutters. About the next six months and it will get some new ones, perhaps for Christmas. I guess it could get a little better if it put on a growth spurt and became an 8" joiner. My vanity would be greatly enhanced. If you are thinking about one, go ahead. There is nothing to fear. This replaced an older delta 6 inch with 3 knifes the bed was 36 inches long ,when the new one was delivered I opened the box up like a little kid and a smile came to my face. I called a friend up to help with the assembly, went together with no problem a little adjustment to the fence and motor to get the belt on, finished up with the belt guard and ran the first piece of red oak thru and that smile come back .The unit was so quite and ran so smooth and that finish was like glass. Any one looking for a new jointer this is the one plenty of power and well built . Maybe Santa well bring that new band saw for Christmas I can only hope.

Finally got this machine unpacked and assembled. Very impressed with the instructions and quality of the machine. The milled surfaces are flawless. The attachment of the base to the joiner is most defiantly a two man job. It is at least 160+ lbs on its own. There is a 14mm bolt that has to be installed in a tight space above he waste shoot that is not clearly shown in the instructions. Other that that one item, the instructions are clear and it is easy to assemble. Once it was assembled, there was a slight adjustment to the fence needed and it was good to go. I would defiantly go with the helical head it cuts very clean.
