“The 4wt 10'6" feels super nice flicking nymphs around or casting dry flies. But man do these tips want to break. You have to be so cautious about the angle you hold the rod with a fish on. I have a High Stick Drifter (same length, weight, and purpose) that has a much more gradual increase in stiffness as you go down the rod. This rod, the first two feet bend so easily and then it immediately becomes super inflexible from there on down. Lost one tip bringing in a 14" whitefish against strong current and broke another bringing in a fat 19" brown. Plenty of my own fault involved, but the margin for user error causing a disaster is much wider on this compared to any other rod I've tried. I think I've got to give up on trying to net fish with this rod and just beach them. And this rod isn't coming on any more big trips without a backup tip and a backup rod. Sucks since Echo hasn't had the spare tips in stock for 6 months. But that's the pandemic I guess.”
