“I bought this kit to see if I'm interested in tying flies and it has been a mixed bag, no pun intended. The tools seem very adequate for getting a taste of fly tying. The materials are a different story and I think are meant to lend themselves to not just trout flies. A few disappointments are the saddle hackle (fluorescent green and bright red instead of grizzly and cream as in the photo) and the pheasant tail (two feathers the length of my index finger). No lead or gold wire if you want to tie nymphs. Lots of brightly colored materials that don't seem that traditional, but disclaimer, I'm still learning. So not a bad kit, not a great one, maybe that's how kits are. In retrospect, I'd probably just acquire these tools individually, and then buy materials specific to 2-3 flies to learn on. On the plus side, I am really enjoying fly tying so the kit was a net positive.”
