This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway, London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Fantastic experience… Brandon and Lee were entertaining, interesting and supportive teachers - had a great couple of hours (plus a bit as I made a couple of mistakes and so needed extra time!). Really happy with the final product and would recommend this to anyone - even someone lacking artistic talents like myself!!

Really enjoyed the event. I dont give 5stars lightly. Teachers were fantastic, a good blend of enthusiasm, humour and knowledge, very helpful. Venue was central, nice place. We felt safe and welcome, and we left with a really lovely product that we had put together and were proud off.

The whole experience was as lovely as I had hoped. The teachers managed the lesson cleverly making sure everyone was successful and supported even though each process had to be timed. I am very pleased with what I made. it now has pride of place with some of my other treasures. I noticed how relaxed I felt after the class. Maybe some of the philosophy behind the art form reached me.

Straight off the bat, Brandon was very welcoming and included everyone in conversation throughout the duration of the class. Brandon spoke clearly with precise, followable, instructions but included jokes throughout. Final product was amazing and I would highly recommend this to anyone seeking a new activity to try.

The class was really interesting - great structure and well organised, it was fun to smash & put together our bowls. Love the meaning behind it and everything it signifies. Brandon and Lee checked everyone’s progress at each stage to make sure everybody was on the right path and offered guidance to those who needed it. I feel like they were a bit more interactive with the other couples in the class but honestly I’m not too bothered as we do kind of like to just get on with what we’re doing. Definitely worth a visit! :)
