This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway. , London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Brandon and Lee were incredible charismatic teachers who made sure we were all supported at every step of the day and provided great insight into the history of the art form itself. Overall a 10/10 experience recommended to anyone looking for something different to do

Super fun and you take home a cool ceramic that you have mended with ❤️ and gold. The hosts Brandon and Lee were great - they cracked jokes, maintained an upbeat and well-paced workshop. Demos through and check-ins to ensure your ceramicwasn'ta disaster. The venue was lovely – a modern studio with different floors. There were about 12 of us, a mix of ages - oldies and millennials. Mini workshops are a great way to spend an afternoon - I would definitely do this again with friends or buy it as a gift for someone.

Brandon and Lee hosted a wonderful Kintsugi session today, I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone. From start to finish it was a highly organised class and the structure and group approach to the tasks was very thought out and easy to follow. Waiting times were filled with information about the philosophy and history of the art as well as some banter. I attended this on my own, everyone else was in pairs so I was worried I would feel odd but I didn’t at all. Lots of practical help when needed and very pleased with the outcome.

What a wonderful class! I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but this class easily exceeded my expectations. Brandon was an excellent guide for someone new to Kintsugi. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and informative throughout the session. I felt immediately welcome on arrival, and the sense of enjoyment stayed with me throughout the class. Brandon was ably assisted by Lee, and the two combined brilliantly!

Incredible class. The teacher was fantastic and so knowledgable, but also made the class fun and entertaining. I was grateful for all the support offered in the class so that my pottery turned out as well as it did.
