This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway, London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Had the best time! Booked this class as an anniversary present and couldn't have had more fun. Brandon and Lee were such great hosts (and teachers!). They helped us every step of the way and we left with some very cool ceramics! The studio was lovely (and air conditioned). Would recommend this to anyone interested in Kintsugi or just looking for a couple of hours doing something fun and different!

Amazing class. We called to advise that we were running late due to transport issues, and Brandon and Lee were more than happy to still have us attend and worked with us to ensure we were not too far behind the rest of the group and that the rest of the group were not impacted by our lateness. The environment was lovely and calming and everyone was having fun and laughing with each other. Highly recommend and will rebook another session!

Really nice class and excellent teacher! Teaching was clear and comprehensive, including some history on kintsugi, but also light and with humour. The teacher was helpful and attending to everyone ensuring everyone ended up with a beautiful piece of repaired pottery. Would recommend.

This was a lovely afternoon's experience I'd highly recommend. Brandon & Le were great instructors who were good at teaching, entertaining and helping everyone as we chose our pots, and then broke and rebuilt them. They talked us through the process step by step and it was all great fun - especially flicking gold dust around!! The method and history of this art was fascinating and really enjoyable to get hands on and come home with a unique creation.
