This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway. , London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Really enjoyed the Class with Brandon. not only is he extreamly knowledgeable, but he made the class fun and anjoyable, all while making us feel comfortable. I will be attending again, hopefully to try a more advanced fix. I brought home a bowl that was 8 peices to fix at home and it has been a few weeks since I have had the free time to try again, but everything Brandon had told us in the class was still there. I cant thank Brandon enough for such a wonderful expeirence.

I booked this as a Valentine's surprise for my better half. When we got there, we were greeted by Brandon right away, who was very friendly and pointed us in the right direction to where the class was taking place. The class itself was very calming and peaceful, and the teaching was absolutely on point from Brandon and Lee. I went for a larger bowl because I'm a bit awkward, my better half is much more technically sound than me so she went for a smaller one, but it was made easy by the explanations and advice given during the class. It says 2 hours, but the time absolutely flew and before we knew it, we'd finished. We both had a genuinely great time where we were able to relax, enjoy and make some great artwork. I genuinely cannot think of anything bad to say about this place, it was brilliant. Would recommend to anyone.

This was our first experience of Kintsugi and it was amazing! New it would be great from the moment we approached the venue and the teacher Brandon opened the door and welcomed us. Everything was relaxed and friendly, instructions were clear and delivered with humour. During the session Brandon and Lee would go around checking our progress and giving advice. It was great, and really made kintsugi feel much easier than it is. Best part of the experience, apart from smashing the bowls, was probably the teacher's and their stories. They were really great and made the class more memorable. Really enjoyed the class would definitely recommend doing it to experience kintsugi and work with a wonderful team.
