This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway. , London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Teachers were really helpful. Class was friendly.I knew it would be a bit of a challenge for a wobbly 72 year old but I had a lovely time with excellent teachers and a really friendly young group. Do try it!

We thought this class was wonderful. Brandon and Lee were very welcoming. The class was engaging and fun. It’s surprisingly stressful to smash something in a repairable way, but everyone was supported at all stages. 2 hours passed very quickly and we have two beautiful bowls (and a fine gold shimmer) to take home. I want to go back for a plate class. This class is so cute . Try it! Though now I might’ve tempted to smash a plate at home to ‘repair’. Thank you for a lovely Valentines treat!

I really appreciated the class. Each stage was clearly explained, making it both therapeutic and engaging. The two hours flew by and I felt it was a wonderful experience. It was a thoughtful Christmas gift from my two lovely granddaughters that I truly enjoyed. Thank you Brendon looking forward to booking another Kintsugi class

Had a lot of fun doing kitsugi and really liked how the history was also explained! The instructions were clear and allowed me to just focus on doing the process without having to keep track of the time as the teacher told us exactly when to do everything Really liked how organised the whole thing was! Thanks Brandon!!
