This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway. , London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Absolutely recommend!! This is not just another art and craft class, it is a beautiful, traditional work and the history is well explained by the teacher. My biggest takeaway was how therapeutic I found this activity, each step in this activity can be interpreted as an emotional healing journey, it is simply not to be missed. The teacher was one of the most humble, engaging and encouraging instructors I have met and he guided each one of us through the process. Definitely get the kits available at the end of the class! 10/10

Messy and fun. A very enjoyable class which might have felt disjointed since you do need to wait for the epoxy to mix and set with each join. But Brandon was great, as well as being incredibly patient he shared the background of kintsugi and told related stories so we hardly noticed the waiting times. We all walked away with a very lovely small bowl at the end with the cracks beautifully highlighted / fixed with the gold. Would highly recommend people try this. I’m considering trying again, maybe a plate next time?

I attended the class with 2 of my girlfriends and it was such a unique and memorable experience! Brandon was was absolutely fantastic and made the class fun and approached everything with incredible patience. His insights to Kintsugi made the process even more meaningful. The class was a fascinating blend of emotions. We loved every step of the process, from the intentional breaking of the pots to the intricate work of piecing them back together. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone looking for a creative and therapeutic activity. It's a wonderful way to spend time with friends and walk away with something beautiful and symbolic. Thank you, Brandon, for such an amazing experience!

Teachers knowledgeable skilled and enthusiastic. Could have done with less “family” and cheerleading. Great class and beautiful results
