This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway. , London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

I did this class with my husband as we were looking for something a bit different to do on a Saturday which didn't involve cleaning or waiting for our Asda delivery. We were immediately welcomed by Brandon upon arrival who was very warm and friendly. There were probably around 9 of us in the class of varying ages which was nice. Brandon was informative and engaging and very hands on. He took us through the process step by step as we went along so we all ended up with great results. We has such a lovely time and the venue was fab. Highly recommend giving this class a go. You'll have a great time and leave with a piece you can feel proud of!

I recently attended a Kintsugi pottery class, and it was an unforgettable experience! , and it turned out to The teacher, a true master of the art, was incredibly patient, kind, and knowledgeable. He guided us through the philosophy of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, emphasizing how it’s about embracing imperfections rather than hiding them. All materials were thoughtfully provided, from the broken pottery pieces to the gold-infused lacquer. Everything felt high-quality, and I loved that the class provided everything I needed to dive into the process. We spent the session learning step-by-step how to repair a broken bowl, and I found the process both meditative and empowering. By the end of the class, I not only had a beautifully restored piece of art but also a new appreciation for the beauty in flaws. For the price, it was fantastic value—especially considering the personalized attention and materials provided. My favorite part was seeing the transformation of a once broken object into something even more beautiful than before. I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking for a unique, thoughtful, and creative experience!
