This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway. , London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Absolutely loved this experience with Brandon. I’ve never had to break and reconstruct a (perfectly beautiful) piece of ceramic before - but it really does come out even more beautiful than before. Brandon, our teacher was brilliant. Highly knowledgeable about the subject, and very skilled. He provided excellent class support, and also one to one support to all of us, and structured the class in a way that made sense, and everyone went home with a beautiful piece of art. A spiritual and calming experience (but not to say it’s easy!). I walked away wanting to do this again and again, so thanks to Brandon for opening our eyes to something new and special! Can’t recommend highly enough - and can’t understand why everyone isn’t doing this! If you haven’t experienced Kintsugi, you must! And you need a teacher like Brandon - this isn’t something you could start off doing at home alone (or maybe you could hit with a lot of mistakes), so before you buy a home Lou, be sure to have a lesson from an expert first.

Given as a gift, this pottery class was a fantastic experience. It was help in a communal space in a great location, and the instructor was great - humour, clear guidance and also sharing information about the background to Kintsugi. I would definitely recommend this- whether going solo or in a group.

Brandon was brilliant and the whole class was amazing! He was a great teacher and explainer of all things kintsugi. He has such great patience and can explain things in such a simple manner. The equipment was perfect and the bowl I got to take home was better than I ever thought possible. Highly recommended.
