This is a fun activity in Bolton, Manchester

Fall in love with crochet by creating a classic granny square! You’ll be able to combine beautiful colours to stitch this traditional crochet design, perfect for setting you up for so many other projects. Granny squares can be used to make blankets, garments and more – we’re here to help you get started with your first one.

With the help of an Hobbycraft Artisan, you’ll learn how to crochet a granny square by using all the key techniques. You’ll use double and treble stitches, as well as learning how to decipher a granny square pattern and how to change yarn colours.

There’s a kit included with the workshop to give you everything you need for the project. Within the 90-minute session, you’ll be able to create one granny square, though you can continue to practice making more once you’ve got to grips with all the skills. The kit even features a pattern for a granny square blanket to help you continue your adventure in crochet!

This workshop is the perfect way to grow your crochet confidence, with tips and support from a pro! It’s ideal if you already have basic knowledge of the stitches but are looking to refresh yourself or develop further.

Shannon was a patient teacher who guided us through all the loops and knots of crocheting and made the 1.5 hours great fun.

Brilliant “Learn to crochet a Granny Square” at Bolton Hobbycraft Shannon the class tutor was fantastic, very knowledgeable and patient. Couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. I would highly recommend this class, excellent value and content. All materials provided and even instructions to take home.

This is a good class to begin to learn the basics, which our helpful teacher had a really good understanding of. However, the time went very quickly and we certainly hadn’t managed to create a granny square by the end of it! In summary , these classes are well priced with good availability and do what they say. It would have been nice to be greeted by a craft table ready to go when we arrived, rather than hanging around with nobody to ask and then two staff members collecting the necessary equipment and copying the instructions while we waited. We did get some extras when we left but I suspect that smaller providers offer a more organised and welcoming service, perhaps even a drink.

Jess was fantastic, very clear showing me what I did to do next and very patient when I forgot what I needed to do next. Loved the whole session. Did the beginners course the previous weekend so had absolutely no experience with crocheting. Extremely happy with what I achieved.

It was a good follow on to the beginners crochet class. Jess was friendly and really helpful and we were both able to make our granny square and start another with less assistance needed. Lots of great hints and tips included with direction on what to do next!
