This is a fun activity in Ferndown, Bournemouth

Fall in love with crochet by creating a classic granny square! You’ll be able to combine beautiful colours to stitch this traditional crochet design, perfect for setting you up for so many other projects. Granny squares can be used to make blankets, garments and more – we’re here to help you get started with your first one.

With the help of an Hobbycraft Artisan, you’ll learn how to crochet a granny square by using all the key techniques. You’ll use double and treble stitches, as well as learning how to decipher a granny square pattern and how to change yarn colours.

There’s a kit included with the workshop to give you everything you need for the project. Within the 90-minute session, you’ll be able to create one granny square, though you can continue to practice making more once you’ve got to grips with all the skills. The kit even features a pattern for a granny square blanket to help you continue your adventure in crochet!

This workshop is the perfect way to grow your crochet confidence, with tips and support from a pro! It’s ideal if you already have basic knowledge of the stitches but are looking to refresh yourself or develop further.

Alice was incredibly patient with me when I was struggling at first and got frustrated - by the end of the class, while I hadn't compeleted a whole granny square, I had managed to get the hang of the technique (which I didn't think I would be able to at first). I then finished the granny square the next day at home, with the help of the printed instructions we got to take home. Really appreciated how small the class size was so I could easily ask questions & get help when I made mistakes.

Had a very enjoyable lesson with Jay at Hobbycraft today. She was very patient and I have learnt a great deal. It did help that I had basic knowledge but am now feeling more confident. I will be using my Granny Squares for all sorts of projects now!
