This is a fun activity in Stoke Newington. , London

If you have always loved the principles and aesthetic of Kintsugi repair but haven't had the time to learn or haven't known where to begin, this workshop is for you! Kintsugi, the art of 'golden joinery', originated in Japan and has since been practised and taught for over 600 years. Embracing the tradition of highlighting imperfection instead of disguising it, traditional Kintsugi uses gold and lacquer to mend broken ceramic objects.

This specially designed two-hour taster session, taught in the heart of Stoke Newington, will have you better understanding Kintsugi fundamentals. After this session, you will come away with a beautiful mended object (or two!) which will make a gorgeous keepsake for yourself or a gift for someone you love.

Hosted at The Salvage Company studio, you will be taught by a trained historic crafts conservator with knowledge and experience in both Japanese lacquerware and Kintsugi repair methods. All materials will be supplied, including one piece of reclaimed stoneware or Japanese tea bowl. You can also bring along your own broken piece which we will assess together and then repair if time allows. Time to pull out Grandma's teacup and saucer that you accidentally broke 2 years ago and have been hiding ever since!

For this course, modern repair materials will be used in combination with historic materials for a stunning result. Kintsugi Repair kits will also be available for purchase so that you can continue the practise at home.

Please note:
- Items repaired in this workshop will not be food safe due to some of the quick-setting materials used and will be primarily for display only.
- Studio is ground floor and wheelchair accessible.
-Latecomers of more than 20 minutes will unfortunately not be able to participate in the workshop, and your booking will be forfeited. Please let us know if you are running late so that we can try to accommodate you.

An incredible workshop! The instructor was patient and thorough, explaining the different techniques of Kintsugi with great care. The space itself is warm and inviting, and they welcome you with a cup of tea or coffee upon arrival. Spending the afternoon there was such a rewarding experience—not only did I restore a broken ceramic bowl, but I left feeling inspired to embrace this practice more often.

A brilliantly taught class that was interesting and fun. We were really happy with the bowls we got to take away and it was a straight forward and friendly introduction to Kintsugi. Highly recommended.

The Kintsuge workshop was a Birthday present to myself and something that I had wanted to do for ages. Cody was a brilliant class leader. She was passionate, patient, encouraging and supportive. I managed to finish 2 pieces and I love them. I would have happily spent the whole day with her.

We absolutely loved the Kintsugi workshop. Cody is a gem of a teacher, kind, instructive, highly knowledgeable, full of humour & patience. The feeling of calm and peace is hard to capture as participants engage in this ancient practice of acceptance & repair. If you get the chance I cannot recommend taking a class & learning a little more about the art of Kintsugi & even a little Wabi Sabi, it’s a beautiful reminder to slow down and make piece with the cracks in life.
