This is a fun activity in Cambridge

This class is for you if you’re a big curry fan.

Reunion Island, where I was born, is a French colony off the coast of Madagascar, a couple of thousand miles away from Mauritius. The island has seen many settlers including Chinese, Hindus, people from Madagascar, all of whom had a great influence not only on its culture but most importantly its food.

Reunion Island curries take their influence from Pondicherry in India. The region was a French colonial settlement until 1954. Many from that region travelled to Reunion Island in the late 17th century in search of a better life. Their settlement on the island has influenced Reunion cuisine ever since.

In this session, we will cook up an exotic starter using mango, lime, and avocado, just to name a few of the ingredients. We will also make a traditional "cari, " which is a spicy and traditional dish using meat or fish. Both are cooked in a rich turmeric sauce. In this session, we will make 2 "cari" using chicken and fish, a rougail (a traditional side dish with chillies), a bean stew and rice, and a very exotic dessert using papaya, mango, pineapple, and rum.

Then, it’s time to eat. Take a seat at my table and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Note: Unfortunately, due to its nature, this event is not suitable for vegetarians or specific dietary requirements.

What a day! Fun yet a really relaxed atmosphere. Lovely to chat with your husband too. Corrine was informative while teaching us how to replicate the dishes prepared on the day ( still full up from eating so much) Thank you for the experience and the walk round your lovely garden. We will be back for some of the other experiences you deliver. Thank you for hosting us so wonderfully.

A really enjoyable day. A small group led expertly by Corinne. We chopped and chatted, flavoured, fried and had fun, ate and acquired new friends. A wonderful way to spend a Saturday.

We attended the cooking class "Curries from Réunion Island" as a birthday present for my partner who loves cooking and learning of new cuisines. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed an excellent day led by Corinne. She told us of the culinary history of La Réunion while showing us how to make a flavoursome feast. The weather was a treat so we enjoyed our delicious lunch on the terrace. We learnt a lot and will soon be trying the recipes at home as well. We heartily recommend Corinnes course.
