This is a fun activity in Haydock, Liverpool

If you are interested in learning how to make your own silver jewellery, along with learning silversmithing skills then this is the course for you.

The silversmithing course is suitable for absolute beginners to people with some prior experience who may wish to build on the skills they already have.

The course content consists of:

- 2 weeks learning how to make stacker rings
- 1 week learning basic stone setting a ring
- 2 weeks learning how to make cuff bracelets and bangles
- 1 week making patterned rings

The skills you will learn during the course are how to measure, anneal and shape the different metals into the desired jewellery shape, along with learning how to saw, solder and cure the metals before finishing with buffing and polishing them to a high shine finish.

This course is very interactive and continued support is offered throughout the length of the course, whilst at the same time allowing students to work independently.

The course runs for 2.5 hours each week, but on the odd occasion can slightly overrun to enable students to complete the piece of jewellery they are working on.

I took a jewellery-making course with Carole, where I learned how to measure finger sizes, shape and solder rings, and create patterns for rings, cuffs, and bangles. She also taught me how to set a stone in a bezel and solder it securely onto a ring. The course was held in a relaxed home environment, and Carole was friendly, welcoming, and very supportive throughout. On the final day, I made a bezel-set stone ring for my daughter — and she absolutely loved it.

I really enjoyed my time on the level 1 silversmithing course with Carol! She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to jewellery, literally having a tool for everything! She was also incredibly patient and helpful❤️ thanks again, I love the pieces I made and it’s made me so excited to get started myself!

Honestly had the best few weeks building my confidence in something I had never done before and super proud of my progress. Lovely small class, lots of amazing advice! Never thought 7 weeks ago I would sketch and design my own ring. Thanks for such an amazing few weeks. Lots to practice now and I’ll see you for level 2 soon :)

I paid £200 for this 7-week Level 1 silversmithing course and unfortunately found it extremely poor value for money. Every single session was dominated by lengthy, off-topic monologues that had little to do with jewellery making. Rather than structured teaching, it consistently felt like sitting through a personal podcast or political lecture. Discussions were largely one-sided and frequently focused on the tutor’s personal views instead of practical instruction. When students did finally get an opportunity to speak or ask questions, it often resulted in being talked over or shut down, as if the tutor felt her voice needed to be heard above the rest of the class. Attempts to redirect the focus back to jewellery making were regularly unsuccessful. There was only one main workstation available which was on a table in her front room, meaning a significant amount of class time was spent waiting for others to finish. The practical content covered could realistically have been delivered in a couple of intensive days rather than stretched across seven weeks. In terms of what we actually produced, the outcomes felt very basic considering the duration of the course. We made a few simple rings in copper and silver similar in thickness to a standard metal keyring band and a bracelet that we were encouraged to colour in with felt-tip pen as part of the finish. For a 7-week course, I expected to leave with more refined techniques and higher-quality finished pieces. Due to the constant off-topic monologues and lack of structured teaching, I ultimately chose not to complete the course, as I could not justify continuing to pay with my time for an experience that felt unprofessional and unfocused. I would not recommend this course to anyone whose priority is focused, practical silversmithing instruction.

I really enjoyed the course and was very pleased with the pieces I made. I think I learnt a lot and that was thanks to Carol. She has all the equipment and as I was the only one in the class I did get all the support I needed though I am used to less chat as I need to concentrate. The course takes place in Carol's home which was different for me . She has some very heavy equipment there that is not transportable so I understand why the class took place in her home . I think it was good value for money. Sorry review is late !
