This is a fun activity in Edinburgh

Learn how to make your own clothes in this 3-week course.

This course is ideal for beginners to garment making who have some sewing machine experience or people wanting to elevate their sewing skills by making a garment. You can make any garment you like, depending on your skills and experience. There are only 6 people on the course, so you'll have ample one-to-one tutor time with an expert tutor.

During your first class, you can bring in a shop-bought pattern to work from. This can be any garment you like!

Together, over the course of 3 weeks and with the help of your talented teacher, you will learn step by step how to follow your pattern, successfully make the garment, and leave with the skills to make many more. You'll also gain the confidence to try other patterns too! Please be aware there may be simple homework set in between each class to ensure you complete your project.

Dressmaking is a wonderful, relaxing, and mindful craft. But best of all, at the end of 3 weeks, you'll have a stunning garment of your choice handmade entirely by you! You'll leave with the skills and confidence to try more patterns and make even more clothes that fit you perfectly!

Really enjoyed this class great tutor and a lovely bunch of like minded people sewing for pleasure. I have been sewing for a wee while but wanted to improve my techniques. Ali our tutor was great, very patient and a mine of information. Ali covered some basics like how to pin and cut your fabric correctly and I really appreciated this part of the class as these were a couple of areas I wanted to improve. Due to illness I could not attend the last class but I will take a photo when my garment is finished and send it to Ali.

I am beyond beginner level and I learnt a lot taking me forwards in my sewing journey. I took a pattern and fabric to class with a view to a challenge and with the help of Cerri I rose to that challenge. Whilst my pattern was not lined, it was my choice to add lining and adjust the pattern accordingly. I have a long back and Cerri showed me how to adjust the pattern to incorporate this and how to adjust the darts on the pattern. Due to having lots of pieces, adjustments, lining etc and completing "homework" I did not finish my garment but I will soon. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills with a friendly helpful and very knowledgeable leader. Thank you Cerri.

Kerry was a lovely relaxed and informative teacher. She encouraged us to figure things out for ourselves but was always there with calm guidance if we were going wrong. Would definitely do this class again. Good value fo money.

Great class with a good teacher. I was disappointed though to find that my dress unfortunately doesn’t actually fit me well at all … lots of alterations to do. But I learned a lot and had fun. Thanks Kerri.
