This is a fun activity in Wendens Ambo, Cambridge

Escape to the beautiful landscaped courtyard of an East Anglian farm for a morning or afternoon, as we learn the traditional art of on the wheel thrown ceramics. In this hands on and interactive class, ceramic artist Annabel Wightman will take you through a detailed demonstration, before you will be guided, step-by-step through the process of throwing on the wheel.

Learn and develop your throwing skills in a 1-2-1 lesson, or bring a friend and have a go together!
Annabel will show you the steps of throwing a pot on the potters wheel from start to finish. Learn about centering, opening out, pulling the walls, and cleaning up your pots. By the end of the session you will have a small collection of thrown pieces to be glazed and fired by us ready for you to collect and take home approx. 4 weeks later.

At the end of the class you will then have the opportunity to walk across the courtyard to The Mixing Shed Cafe for a light brunch and real roasters coffee, and then off to the Loaf Tin Bakery to buy a loaf of bread.

We had a great pottery throwing taster class. Our teacher (Annabelle) was fantastic and really good at explaining, demonstrating and helping us with our first attempts! We both produced (lets call them 'bowls') worthy of being fired in the kiln and look forward to collecting them in a couple of months time. It was great fun and I'd recommend to all that haven't tried this before.

Wonderful experience handling clay and using a potter’s wheel for the first time. Expert instruction from Annabel who is very helpful and knowledgeable, taking lots of time with each of us for each process. Looking forward to returning to collect glazed pots which we made and seeing the results! Studio is peaceful, bright and calm, location is gorgeous with countryside views.

I really enjoyed my Pottery Throwing Taster Class . Annabelle was a fantastically informative and patient teacher. Whilst I'm not quite ready to make my own dinner service yet, I have still learnt a lot.

Such a lovely morning spent making pots! Annabel was super friendly and encouraging - this was our first time behind a potters wheel! We would love to come back for a family session in the new year! Highly recommended.
