This is a fun activity in Bristol

This dressmaking course, run over 2 weeks, is an ideal follow-on from our beginner machine sewing course, or for anyone with basic sewing machine skills who wants to start making their own clothes. Learn how to read and understand commercial patterns and the foundation techniques for dressmaking while making a cosy pair of pyjama bottoms.

Included in the price is a Simplicity commercial pattern with various his/hers nightwear designs which you can take away and re-use. You will learn how to understand and adapt patterns to get a perfect fit. Plus, get to grips with waistbands, hemming, joining straight and curved seams, and pattern matching to achieve a professional finish. Just bring your choice of fabric and sewing machine if you want to use your own.

Taught by experienced teacher Lauren, there is a max of 6 students per class, and each student has an individual workstation. This class is designed for students with basic sewing machine experience and taught on your machine but if you do not have access to one we have some available to hire for free.

This course runs over 2 weeks from 6:30-9:30pm (6 total teaching hours)

We made pyjama trousers! It was a nice group, you had time to ask the tutor questions and came away with a finished piece. Parking was easy too which helped me as my turn of the century Singer machine weighs a ton!

I had wanted to start making clothes for many years but had no idea how to understand a pattern. Lauren gave step by step tuition and once you know how it’s nowhere near as daunting as I first thought. I am looking forward to putting my new found knowledge into practice at home. Would recommend this class to anyone wanting to get started with basic patterns and growing techniques for all kinds of future projects. I am so happy I signed up, thank you Lauren .
