This is a fun activity in Northampton
Join these laid-back monthly pottery classes in Northamptonshire, where each month brings something new to explore!
Whether you’re a total beginner or have some experience under your belt, you’ll be guided through the process with plenty of demos and individual tips to help you along the way. It’s all about having fun, getting creative, and learning at your own pace, with a small group of fellow makers. Plus, you’ll have loads of time to experiment with your own ideas!
You’ll be able to make up to two regular or four small pieces, which you will either surface design and colour with slips on the day, or else choose some stoneware glazes of your choice for application on your behalf after being bisque fired (Karen will explain the difference!). Your creations will be ready to collect in about three weeks.
Workshops happen on the first Sunday of most Months. Themes by month for the pottery classes are:
OCTOBER - Using clay slabs to make gifts or festive inspired wares. Karen will have lots of ideas and examples, but feel free to also bring your own.
DECEMBER - Big Mug and Coaster set. Hand-built, and decorate with sgraffito or relief surface design.
FEBRUARY - Animal Sculptures. Animal sculpture is a favorite of Karen your teacher. You will be shown how to make a medium sized sculpture (up to approx 15cm)
MARCH - Throwing on the wheel to make a cup, a bowl and plate. This session is only for 3 people!
APRIL - Making garden sculptures to put in stakes for flower beds. No garden, no problem - smaller ones can be made for pots or even ceramic ornamentations to add to vases.
MAY - Flower pressing fine stem flowers into clay to make an item of your choosing (vase, platter, mug etc), plus make a relief plaque of larger flowers in plaster off paris.
JUNE - same as May!
JULY - Handbuilding bonanza - you bring the ideas and we try to make it! (not throwing on the wheel)
SEPTEMBER - make 3 decorative ceramic pumpkins or gourds for Autumn
- This class is suitable for adults and children aged 14years and over, with an accompanying adult.
- It will not be possible to use the electric pottery wheels if you are fitted with a pacemaker.
