This is a fun activity in Edinburgh

From January 2027 I’m relocating my studio/workshop to Roslin (30 mins by bus to the south of Edinburgh) a few metres from the famed Rosslyn Chapel and Castle
(a wonderful opportunity to combine a workshop with a visit to the chapel afterwards. A discount voucher will be available)

Don’t forget if you’d like to get others involved and you’re based in or around Edinburgh, I’m
Happy to travel to you. Prices and times are more or less the same and I’ll bring everything you’ll need.

Thank you for your support

Can’t see a date that suits? Request your own that does.. (If you can drag along a friend then you can request a ‘private lesson otherwise it may be open to others) thank you. Will

This is one of five classes I offer (please view other listings) I’m very flexible on dates, so you’re most welcome to book/request a “class ”. as long as the desired date has no other bookings. (please therefore give a few alternatives if possible!)

Most classes now start at 10am. **

Discover the art of bookbinding in my engaging & intimate (max 6 attendees) workshop here in Edinburgh. Learn how to make your very own pocketbook selecting from an array of fabrics including tweed, leather, tartans, and linens. You'll be shown the practical skills of folding and binding paper to create a piece of unique and functional art.

- Prepare paper and covers using various stitching & sewing techniques.
- Handle materials, tools, and adhesives with guidance.

This workshop blends the artistry and craftsmanship of bookbinding to nurture both your hand skills and creativity. Rest assured, beginners are most welcome, and those with some experience will find value in this class. Children over ten years old are also encouraged to join in the fun.

Immerse yourself in this hands-on activity and watch as your creations unfold before your eyes. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a beautiful journal to take home. The class fee includes professional tools, materials of your choice, and, of course, plenty of shortbread and tea to keep you inspired. Perfect for book lovers, artists, and writers seeking to explore a rich and versatile craft. Ideal for personal gifts or for spreading creativity.

Snacks are provided but feel free to bring your own.

“I gave my wife a gift voucher for her birthday and she chose this class. We came to Edinburgh to have it together. It was a wonderful time and chat, and we really loved how our books ended up looking. Would definitely recommend both as an experience and as a way to get a unique souvenir!”

“Will was very welcoming, and very patient with us throughout the process despite each of us somehow messing up a different step along the way. He explained everything very clearly and in the end we came away with a gorgeous notebook. He was lovely to talk to and you’ll come away with lovely memories of a fun afternoon and a good chat. Ps. Liked Lord of the Rings the CORRECT amount.”

“We were given a warm welcome by Will and started with a cup of tea and a chat. We then got stuck in to making our book. Will, gave us clear instruction, both verbal and practical on how to build our book cover. We had a choice of Harris Tweed or Leather for the cover. The atmosphere was relaxed with Will helping us out when required. We love our books and would recommend this course to all.”

“Ideal for complete beginners. Very relaxed and plenty of time to chat and ask questions. Nice small group. Good materials all provided and ample time to complete all the stages of the project - though I found the tweed hard to work with, it does look great. Also some take home materials if you want to learn from your mistakes like me!”
