This is a fun activity in Edinburgh

This hands-on pottery workshop is perfect for beginners eager to explore the wonderfully tactile world of clay. You'll master essential hand-building techniques and create your very own piece of functional art to cherish.

Our welcoming studio environment puts newcomers at ease straight away. Your creative activity begins with a gentle introduction to the essentials, where you'll discover how clay responds to your touch and learn the fundamental techniques of pinching, coiling, and joining. These building blocks of pottery-making will guide you towards crafting your own unique vessel.

At ViViVi Studio, we ensure you have everything needed to bring your vision to life. As you work with the clay, you'll feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment as your piece takes shape. We provide all the materials you need for decorating, allowing your personality to shine through every creative choice you make.

At the end of the class, you can decide whether you’d like to fire your best pot (1 piece per person). Your favorite piece can be glazed and fired, or you can choose the eco-friendly option to recycle it. For any additional pieces you’d like to keep, there will be a cost of £10 per piece. If you’d like your items shipped, there will be an additional £15 shipping fee, and we’ll handle the delivery to you.

When picking up your fired work, please bring any newspaper or bubble wrap you have at home to transport your pieces safely. Your items will be ready for collection within 8 weeks, and we’ll notify you when they’re ready.

We had a class with Akiko last week. My girlfriend and I both had zero experience with pottery, but she was very knowledgeable and patient in teaching us what to do. She was also very flexible with the final crafting decisions and was amenable to suggestions or questions in making something a bit out of the norm.

It was such a fun and peaceful class! Great ambiance and fantastic teacher, she was patient and made us feel very welcome, even took out of her own time to ensure we got the full time even after I was late (so sorry about that!). The place is a bit hard to find especially after dark so I really recommend getting there early. I fully recommend this experience.

The teacher was absolutely brilliant, very friendly and helpful! We really enjoyed learning pinch pot, slab and coil methods of pottery - it didn’t feel rushed at all and we were always helped along. Can’t wait to see the products once they are fired! Would recommend to anyone new to pottery.

I had a great session today with Akiko. I have never made pottery before, and was a little nervous about what we would be doing. However, I shouldn't have been - Akiko was very welcoming and friendly and showed me some books to get ideas and inspiration from whilst she made us some tea. We chatted about some ideas of what I'd like to make (we decided on a wavy edge bowl and a mug) and then Akiko took me step-by-step through the processes. As I was the only person there I was lucky to essentially get a private lesson, which was great. We also chatted easily about our lives alongside the pottery making, which was lovely. For my very first time making pottery I was very impressed and happy with what I made. I wanted to keep both items, so only had to pay an extra £5 (1 item is included in the price; any additional items are £5 each). If you decide you don't want to keep anything then the clay is recycled. This was a great introduction to pottery making and I would highly recommend it.
