This is a fun activity in Forest Gate, London

Important venue update: All workshops will take place at our new studio at 377 Station Road, Forest Gate.

In this intimate workshop, you'll learn the foundational techniques of wheel throwing pottery, creating your own handmade ceramic pieces in a professional studio setting. This class is perfect for complete beginners and those who've tried it out a bit, with a maximum of three students ensuring plenty of personal attention.

If you've always wanted to try pottery but felt uncertain about where to begin, this workshop provides the perfect introduction. You'll receive expert guidance throughout the two-hour session, learning at a comfortable pace in a supportive environment.

Starting with the basics, you'll discover how to centre clay on the wheel and master the essential techniques for pulling up walls to create cylinder shapes. Working with approximately 3lbs of clay, you'll receive step-by-step instruction as you develop your skills. For those who have some experience or specific projects in mind, the session can be tailored to your needs (please contact the studio in advance to discuss. we also offer an intermediate class that may suit you better).

The meditative nature of working with clay makes this workshop particularly special - as you learn to feel and respond to the material, you'll discover the peaceful satisfaction of creating with your hands.

At the end of the session, you can choose to your favourite pieces which be glazed and fired by the team in the colours of your choice.

Your piece will then be fired by the studio to 1220C.

You will be required to return to the studio 6 weeks after you class date to collect your work. Postage is available at extra cost.

Please note: We strive to help you create something amazing during your pottery class. Because each piece is handmade and involves many variables (such as clay handling, glaze, and firing conditions), we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for defects or damages that occur in items you’ve made.

With only two of us in the class we got a lot of time and attention and a class paced to our ability. Having a choice of glazes is a nice touch.

A really enjoyable class. The smaller class sizes meant that we each felt very supported and were able to make good progress throughout the course of the morning.

I took the 2 hour pottery throwing beginners class in Bow. Alice, the teacher, was excellent - she explained and demonstrated each technique clearly and went at just the right pace. She was so encouraging and made us feel comfortable, allowing us to work at our own speed while still offering plenty of guidance and support. The studio itself was a lovely, welcoming space that instantly put me at ease. I really felt supported throughout the session, and by the end, I not only learned a lot but also had so much fun. Highly recommend this class to anyone curious about pottery or looking for a creative, hands-on experience!

We had the best time at our pottery throwing class! Ali was an amazing teacher and we managed to throw a couple of pots each. She explained everything so well and was really patient when we needed extra support. So excited to see how they come out of the kiln in 6-8 weeks. Would highly recommend!!
