This is a fun activity in Edinburgh.

This hands-on wheel-throwing class (Max 4 students) is perfect for beginners eager to explore the wonderfully tactile world of clay and is open to all skill levels. ViViVi Studio offers a step-by-step approach to help you create your own beautifully designed pottery. Whether you’re completely new to throwing or looking to refine your skills, this class is ideal for you.

In this session, you’ll master essential throwing techniques and craft your very own piece of functional art to cherish.

While the throwing process is often therapeutic, it also offers valuable lessons as you work with the spinning wheel. Beyond learning the techniques, you’ll develop the ability to adapt to changes and challenges, fostering a mindset that embraces problem-solving. At ViViVi Studio, we’re committed to providing a mindful and enriching experience, allowing you to enjoy the calm and creativity of working with your hands.

We ensure you have everything you need to bring your vision to life. As you shape the clay, you’ll experience the joy of creating something uniquely yours. ViViVi Studio provides all the materials for throwing, encouraging your personality to shine through every creative decision you make.

At the end of the class, you can decide whether you’d like to fire your best pot (1 piece per person). Your favorite piece can be glazed and fired, or you can choose the eco-friendly option to recycle it. For any additional pieces you’d like to keep, there will be a cost of £10 per piece. If you’d like your items shipped, there will be an additional £10 shipping fee, and we’ll handle the delivery to you.

When collecting your fired work, please bring any newspaper or bubble wrap from home to safely transport your items. Your pieces will be ready for collection within four weeks, and we’ll notify you as soon as they’re ready.

Join us for a meaningful and relaxing journey into the art of pottery!

Teacher was friendly and informative, the kids had a fun time and learned the skills. Feedback from the girls is that they had a great time but they feel there were a lot of instructions all at once, they felt it would be easier to follow the instructions in smaller stages. Thanks for a fun day :)

My friend Grace and I recently tried our hand (and forearms… and trousers) at wheel throwing at Vivivi Studio in Edinburgh.... and honestly, we had the best time. We were complete newbies to pottery, but Akiko, our instructor and all-round clay whisperer, made us feel totally at ease. From the moment we walked in, she welcomed us with tea, inspiration books, and the kind of calm energy that makes you forget you're about to wrestle a spinning lump of mud. Akiko took us through the process step-by-step with saint-like patience and a great sense of humour (essential, given how many times our clay flopped dramatically mid-spin). We made a bowl each....and while mine might not win a Prize, I was weirdly proud of it. It turns out the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands is very real... even if it ends up slightly off-centre. You get to keep one item as part of the price, and it's just a fiver for any extras.... which is dangerously tempting when you’ve bonded emotionally with your oddly shaped bowl. The studio is peaceful, the vibe is friendly, and Akiko is an absolute gem. If you're thinking about giving pottery a go, do it. You’ll get messy, you’ll laugh, and you’ll go home with clay in places you didn’t know clay could go.... but you’ll also have a brilliant time. Thanks again Akiko... 10/10 would throw clay again!

Lovely couple of hours at Vivi studio. Akiko is a great teacher. Our pieces turned out far better than expected for our first attempt at pot throwing. I booked a private class for my husband and I’s anniversary and thought that going for the private option was well worth it. To get more attention from the tutor. Excited to see how our pieces look once them come out of the kiln . Thank you Akiko!

This class exceeded expectations, Chiara was such a patient and knowledgeable teacher. I didn’t expect to end the class with any usable item being a first timer in using the wheel but left the class with two items! Would definitely recommend and I look forward to giving it another go. Thanks Chiara!
