This is a fun activity in Edinburgh.

This hands-on wheel-throwing class (Max 4 students) is perfect for beginners eager to explore the wonderfully tactile world of clay and is open to all skill levels. ViViVi Studio offers a step-by-step approach to help you create your own beautifully designed pottery. Whether you’re completely new to throwing or looking to refine your skills, this class is ideal for you.

In this session, you’ll master essential throwing techniques and craft your very own piece of functional art to cherish.

While the throwing process is often therapeutic, it also offers valuable lessons as you work with the spinning wheel. Beyond learning the techniques, you’ll develop the ability to adapt to changes and challenges, fostering a mindset that embraces problem-solving. At ViViVi Studio, we’re committed to providing a mindful and enriching experience, allowing you to enjoy the calm and creativity of working with your hands.

We ensure you have everything you need to bring your vision to life. As you shape the clay, you’ll experience the joy of creating something uniquely yours. ViViVi Studio provides all the materials for throwing, encouraging your personality to shine through every creative decision you make.

At the end of the class, you can decide whether you’d like to fire your best pot (1 piece per person). Your favorite piece can be glazed and fired, or you can choose the eco-friendly option to recycle it. For any additional pieces you’d like to keep, there will be a cost of £10 per piece. If you’d like your items shipped, there will be an additional £10 shipping fee, and we’ll handle the delivery to you.

When collecting your fired work, please bring any newspaper or bubble wrap from home to safely transport your items. Your pieces will be ready for collection within four weeks, and we’ll notify you as soon as they’re ready.

Join us for a meaningful and relaxing journey into the art of pottery!

My son and I enjoyed a brilliant pottery throwing class with Akiko this morning. After a demonstration from Akiko we had loads of time to try out our newly aquired skills. Akiko is a lovely, relaxed and patient teacher who was always on hand to guide us and help when things went a bit wonky! Loved the class and delighted with the pots we managed to produce. Can't wait to see them once they have been glazed and fired. Would 100 per cent recommend.

It was a very good experience! We are total beginners but Akiko went through the very basics and step by step made us feel more confident in trying alone. She was also patience and helping us if needed. It was fun, relaxing and engaging. Highly recommended;)

Akiko was very welcoming and a great teacher. It was my first time trying wheel throwing but my partner had been to an intro class before and we both really enjoyed it. After a really helpful demonstration, we got lots of time to practise with the wheel ( thankfully with Akiko on hand to help fix any mistakes!). I’d highly recommend the class to anyone interested

What a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Akiko is a wonderful teacher with plenty of patience but so happy to let you do your own thing with the clay. We had plenty of opportunities to make pots, cups or in my case just get used to the way the clay behaved on the wheel. Thoroughly recommend having a go.

Akiko was an absolutely wonderful teacher. She is very knowledgable and attentive, making sure to sit next to you whilst on the wheel to provide advice and support (as well as to save pots that are wobbling off kilter). If you’re looking for the perfect date idea, or just fancy learning how to throw pottery on the wheel, we cannot recommend Akiko and this class more!
