This wood block printing workshop is a relaxed class where you can get into the creative flow and make some beautiful stationery to take home.

Your tutor will explain the thought process behind creating different types of patterns and prints. They will also do a printing demonstration, explaining how different colours work together and how to best use your printing space.

You’ll then start practising with the wood blocks, all hand-carved in India – there are over 100 botanical, animal and geometric designs to choose from. This stage is just about having fun and seeing what works. You will come up with your own designs and colour palettes.

Next, your tutor will work with you individually to discuss your ideas before you move onto printing your final items. These include gift tags, greetings cards, a notebook, and an art print.

All materials and tea/coffee are included in the cost of the workshop.

“This was my first ever taster of Wood Block Printing. It was a delight! Our tutor Joanna was warm, friendly and informative. Everything was provided including aprons, tea, coffee and biscuits. And the materials were top notch and included metallic paints for extra effect and the most beautiful and varied carved Indian Wood blocks for printing. My personal delight was in blending the paint colours to see the enhanced effects they made. By the end we had all created a lovely selection of cards with envelopes, gift tags, a note book and a larger A4 size print to take home and frame if desired. A very happy and engaging morning. And in a lovely setting by the Thames for a stroll afterwards. Thank you. Highly recommended. X”

“I jumped at the chance to book Joanna’s wood block printing on stationery class, as I’d seen her work previously and been wanting for ages to try it out. I invited a couple of my friends to come with me, and I’m so glad I did because the class was fantastic and we all had the absolute best time! Joanna is lovely; she had everything perfectly organised, with a varied array of paints, even pretty metallics, and many gorgeous wood block designs to choose from, including lettering. Under her expert guidance we soon mastered the techniques, and we loved experimenting with colour mixing. You get totally absorbed in the creativity and end up with a selection of really beautiful cards, envelopes, labels etc. We enjoyed meeting and getting to know the other participants too. A wonderful, relaxing way to spend a couple of hours, the class was a total delight – we all had such fun, and would absolutely love to do it again. I cannot recommend it enough, and am telling everyone about it! Thank you so much, Joanna”
