This is a fun activity in Edinburgh

** I’m very flexible on dates, so if you’ve a group of two or more you’re most welcome to book a “private class”. as long as the desired date have have no other attendees signed in. (please give a few alternatives)

Most classes now start at 10am. **

Design and make your very own A5 or larger A4 copper panel.

In this class, you will learn the practical skills needed to create a decorative panel, personalised to your own design which when displayed under double mount boards, will be ready to frame and be admired on your wall.

Please start thinking/choosing a design as soon as possible which I can help prepare for the class beforehand.

You'll be guided through the processes of embossing and chasing back the soft metal which after chemically ageing will be highlighted and polished.

Don't worry if you're a beginner - this workshop is designed for those with a desire to create for themselves. You'll learn how to handle various materials, tools, and adhesives.

The atmosphere in the studio will be warm and welcoming, with plenty of refreshments to keep you energised. (Happy to provide a pre-packed sandwich. Please let me know dietary requirements - Thank you)

By the end of the workshop, you'll have not only gained new skills and confidence but also have your own unique wall art to take home.

What is Repoussé?
Repoussé is a generalised term for ancient metalworking techniques in which soft, malleable metals are shaped by localised pressure to create a design in relief.

Many metals can be used including gold, silver and copper as well as alloys such as bronze and pewter.

These techniques have been extensively used all over the world, as they require only the simplest tools and materials, and yet allow great diversity of expression. They are also relatively economical, since there is no loss or waste of metal. Toolmarks are often intentionally left visible to show the artist's hand.

A few among many famous examples of repoussé and chasing are the prehistoric Gundestrup cauldron, the death mask of Tutankhamen, Bronze Age armour and even the Statue of Liberty in New York and Paris.

Here in Scotland, the art form reached its peak during the Arts and Crafts movement, a reaction to the machined mass-produced. Hopefully together we can create a revival of sorts.

Intrigued by this beautiful art form, we booked a repoussé class and used a gift voucher we’d received for Christmas to put towards it. The whole process was incredibly straightforward — I already knew that the vouchers were easy to buy but as a recipient they're just as easy to redeem. Within a couple of hours of booking, Will got in touch with helpful advice and guidance, which immediately set a positive tone. On the day itself, he was welcoming, friendly, and full of advice and encouragement. His passion for his work shines through and his enthusiasm and friendly chat made the experience even more enjoyable. We both came away feeling inspired, supported, and genuinely delighted with what we created. A wonderful experience from start to finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see us back to do another workshop in the future!

The teacher was very kind, social, helpfull. He gave us a lott of tips about what we should do and not in Edinburgh. During the workshop he helped and explained everything that we needed to do and the different techniques that can be used with different images. He provided different Scottish snacks which were adapted to different diets. We would recommend the copper repousse class 100 %.

A day well spent! Will is very knowledgeable about all things copper, was very helpful while not overtaking the work too much so that i still get a really nice picture that’s done and chose by myself. The atmosphere is cosy and friendly, highly recommend

Will was a great teacher, very knowledgeable but also good at making sure we could say our copper panels were all our own work, which we really valued He was very personable and the session felt like a proper break from normal life, a really mindful experience!
