Learn how to make a functional and attractive trug-style basket in our basket weaving workshop for beginners. This is a project that introduces the basics of frame basket making, including attaching the frame to the ribs, weaving, and adding a handle. You can choose to make a basket with an over handle or side handles.
The baskets are made with a combination of UK-grown willow and foraged materials. When it is finished, it is ready for use in the garden!
Mary's supportive, relaxed teaching style will guide you through the various stages of making your basket. You will gain an understanding of how the willow behaves as you weave, and after the final trimming up, you will have a useful basket you will be proud to take home. You will learn about the simple tools that are used in basketry and some basic weaving patterns that can be applied to a wide range of baskets in the future.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with more experience. All tools and materials will be provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting a bit grubby.
