This is a fun activity in Edinburgh
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create beautiful monotype prints using a homemade gelatin printing plate, without the need for expensive equipment or a printing press. You'll master various techniques to produce a set of up to 10 unique greeting cards with envelopes to take home, or vibrant prints for framing and future creative projects.
Worried about your artistic abilities? This activity requires no drawing skills or previous printmaking experience. The gelatin printing process produces instant, colourful results that are perfect for beginners while still offering plenty of creative possibilities.
Throughout this 3-hour session, local artist and printmaker Lou Davis will guide you through creating your own gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate and exploring its versatile applications. You'll experiment with stencils and masks, add texture using botanicals and found objects, create marks with household items, and design your own foam stamps. The process combines structure with playful experimentation, allowing your creativity to flourish in a supportive environment.
By the end of this how-to workshop, you'll discover a new accessible art form that can be easily continued at home. The printmaking techniques you learn will inspire ongoing creative exploration, while your collection of handmade greeting cards provides both beautiful keepsakes and personalised items to share with friends and family.
