This one-day course is perfect for complete beginners, offering a friendly and supportive environment to develop essential woodworking skills. You’ll be guided through each stage, from selecting the timber to finishing your stool. You’ll learn how to read the grain, assess wood quality, and mill rough-sawn timber into precise components. As the day unfolds, you’ll progress to cutting traditional wedged mortice and tenon joinery, shaping the legs, and mastering effective glue-up techniques.
Throughout the day, you’ll work with a mix of hand tools and workshop machinery, gaining confidence in using different methods to achieve professional-quality results. You’ll experience the satisfaction of making furniture by hand, leaving you with a deeper appreciation for the craft and the chance to learn a new skill.

Aidan's workshop is located inside Good Yard Studio, a contemporary craft studio in Stockport. The workshop is light and airy with a beautiful outside space, kitchen and communal indoor area. The workshop will take place in the wood workshop with lunch held in either the communal studio or out in the yard. You'll leave with a real sense of accomplishment, having created something beautiful and functional with your own hands.
