This is a fun activity in Northampton

Come and spend the day in the inspiring and exciting environment of the Stitch and Make Studio. Take time out of your busy life to reconnect with something creative, slow down and relax. Have fun and learn something new.

Time will be given over to experimenting with a range of textile based techniques to create surfaced layers. Use yarns, fabrics, and stitch to produce a unique framed artwork.

We'll ease our way in slowly into the day looking at some basic colour theory understanding harmonious, complementary, and secondary colour themes and thinking about our favourite colours we like to wear and use in our homes.

We'll jump straight in by experimenting with different techniques. Each technique will be demonstrated so that you can build up a range of small samples to play around with. There's no right or wrong with this, It's a chance to play around and have fun.
- Begin by cutting up and layering coloured threads, snippets of fabrics, and coloured yarns onto sheer and gauze surfaces to create "sandwiches".
- Build up layers by creating coloured and textured surfaces using paint and oil pens. We'll add some spots of colour with metallic sequins which have been slightly melted and trap them in our layers. Our samples will be ironed onto a range of different colours and surfaces to see how they behave.
- After lunch, we'll look at ways to add more interest and texture by incorporating simple hand stitching using a variety of coloured threads and beads. You'll also be shown how to wrap a framework using strips of contrasting old cotton prints.

This is a fun and experimental class, Its a real stress buster. No sewing skills are required just a willingness to have a go.

Good sounds, refreshments, and biscuits supplied throughout the day.

We had a smashing day at Abi's lovely studio experimenting with lots of different textile techniques. I've done a few of Abi's courses over the years and always come away feeling inspired. We learnt about colour theory, how to draw patterns with a sewing machine, how to build different textures using layers of fabric and how to melt away layers using a heat gun. Abi has so much experience and knowledge and is such a great teacher. I've come away feeling full of ideas and ready to carry on practicing at home. Thank you, Abi for a brilliant day
