This is a fun activity in Northampton

Spend the day in the inspiring and exciting environment of the Stitch and Make Studio. Take time out of your busy life to relax in this fun and exciting workshop.

Spend time experimenting with a range of techniques to create surfaced layers. Use yarns, fabrics, and stitch to produce a unique artwork framed for the wall.

We'll ease our way in slowly with a chat about basic colour theory understanding harmonious, complementary, and secondary colour themes and thinking about our preference for colours in the home and our wardrobe.

We'll build up our artwork using a range of experimental techniques. Each technique will be demonstrated so that you can build up a range of small samples to play around with.
- Begin by cutting up and layering coloured threads, snippets of fabrics, and coloured yarns onto sheer and gauze surfaces to create "sandwiches".
- Build up layers by creating coloured and textured surfaces using paint and oil pens and cutting and melting sequins. The samples will be ironed onto various coloured fabric surfaces.
- After lunch, there'll be time to apply a range of simple hand stitching using a variety of coloured threads of various thicknesses. You'll be shown how to wrap a framework and apply decorative elements like beads or sequins.
- Finish off and frame work inside a circular embroidery hoop.

This is a fun and experimental class, no sewing skills needed just a willingness to have a go.

Good sounds, refreshments, and biscuits supplied throughout the day.

We had a smashing day at Abi's lovely studio experimenting with lots of different textile techniques. I've done a few of Abi's courses over the years and always come away feeling inspired. We learnt about colour theory, how to draw patterns with a sewing machine, how to build different textures using layers of fabric and how to melt away layers using a heat gun. Abi has so much experience and knowledge and is such a great teacher. I've come away feeling full of ideas and ready to carry on practicing at home. Thank you, Abi for a brilliant day
