This is a fun activity in Mortlake, London
Join this wheel throwing taster class in London and discover the captivating art of pottery in a friendly workshop. The session kicks off with your experienced tutor providing a detailed demonstration, where you will learn how to centre clay and form a cylinder – the essential starting point for any potter! This initial guidance ensures you feel confident before you begin.
Then, you'll take a seat at your own potter's wheel for a truly hands-on activity. You will learn how to work with the clay, practising how to centre it and then gently manipulate it into your own unique cylinder or bowl shape. Throughout this creative process, your tutor will be there to offer as much or as little assistance as you need, making it a perfect introduction for beginners.
At the culmination of your pottery making experience:
- You can choose up to 2 favourite pieces, which will then be carefully fired and glazed for you in one of 20 beautiful studio colours.
- Your masterpieces will be ready for collection 3–4 weeks later, or you can opt to have them conveniently posted to you for the cost of the postage.
This enjoyable workshop offers a genuinely rewarding experience, allowing you to mould shapeless clay into tangible objects with your own hands. You’ll leave with up to two beautiful, self-made ceramic pieces and the satisfying accomplishment of mastering a new craft.
We suggest wearing sensible shoes and clothing you don’t mind getting clay on! We also recommend keeping your nails relatively short for the class. You’re welcome to bring your own apron, though aprons will also be provided.
