This is a fun activity in Eastleigh, Southampton
The day will begin with an introduction to the fascinating world of natural dyes. I will showcase examples of my work and share my extensive library of books and resources. We will discuss the importance of seasonality and explore where to source flowers and plants for dyeing. Following this, we will prepare the mordant pans using alum and tannin, which are essential for fixing the dyes to the fabric. Once the mordanting process is complete, we will move on to the exciting part - dyeing with your choice from a selection of plants. Silk is a wonderful material to use with natural dyes as it absorbs the colours beautifully, creating a stunning scarf that you can wear or give as a present. If you have time and wish to continue dyeing, there will be additional scarves available for purchase on the day.
There will be tea and cake provided.
