If you have ever wanted to learn how to use the pottery wheel, this six-week course is the perfect activity for you. In this extended workshop, you will learn everything you need to know about the fundamentals of wheel-throwing, guided by expert instructors at every stage. It doesn't matter if you have never even touched clay before – this course will take you through all the basics and intricacies.
Each week of this supportive course builds on the last, allowing you to steadily grow your skills and confidence.
Your journey will begin with learning how to wedge and centre clay, progressing to throwing different forms, before learning trimming techniques and how to add handles. The course culminates in a glazing session where you will add colour and finish your beautiful pieces. By the end, you'll have gained the skills and confidence to officially call yourself a potter!
The course structure follows a clear progression:
Week 1: Throwing, wedging and centring
Week 2: Throwing
Week 3: Throwing
Week 4: Trimming
Week 5: Handles
Week 6: Your pots will be fired this week (no class)
Week 7: Glazing
This course runs every Tuesday or Sunday for six weeks, with the seventh week reserved for glazing. Please arrive promptly, ready to start at 6:30 pm.
You’ll finish this course with a wonderful new skill set and a collection of your very own finished, glazed pieces, representing a truly rewarding creative transformation.
The course is taking place at Our Station Road Studio: 150A Station Road, MK178SG.
Please note, our making area is on the first floor, only accessible via stairs.
