Spend a relaxed and enjoyable day getting to know your sewing machine and discovering everything it can do. This workshop is ideal for beginners or anyone who would like a refresher and more confidence using their machine.
If you’re new to sewing, returning after a break, or have recently bought a new sewing machine, this class is perfect for you.
If you’re a complete beginner, you’ll learn how to:
Set up and thread your sewing machine
Wind a bobbin
Set the correct tension
Troubleshoot common problems
Sew neat, straight seams and finish them professionally
If you’ve attended a similar course before, Geraldine will help you build on your existing knowledge, introducing new techniques and helping you feel more confident and capable with your sewing machine.
Throughout the day, Geraldine will also cover a range of useful skills, including:
Using different embroidery stitches
Inserting zips
Sewing buttonholes
Using a twin needle
Cutting and applying bias binding
Understanding and using the accessories that come with your machine
…and plenty more tips and techniques along the way.
Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order, as the tutor will not be able to repair machines on the day. If you have any concerns about your machine, please speak to a member of staff at Tudor Rose Patchwork before the workshop.
**Good to know:**
- The venue has parking. Upon arrival, park in the car park at the front of the shop. Unload your vehicle into your classroom. Staff will then advise you where to park your car for the day at the rear of the complex.
- There is disabled parking and ramps allowing access to all areas. There is a disabled toilet.
Staff will help anyone in need of assistance. Shop on site selling an enormous range of goods relating to crafting: dressmaking, patchwork & quilting, knitting & crochet, sewing machines and furniture.
- There is a coffee shop on site called O for Coffee. Attendees at our classes are visited by coffee shop staff regularly throughout the day to take any orders. Anything consumed during your day is sold at a 10% discount. As well as a large choice of hot and cold drinks, the menu comprises savoury choices including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and soups. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a selection of cakes and scones made in-house with gluten-free and vegan options.
