In our Deep Dive Intro to Oil Painting workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of composition, colour theory and how to create beautiful art using the timeless medium of oil paint. You will have the opportunity to take home your own oil painting at the end of the workshop. No prior experience is needed to dive into this creative activity, making it suitable for beginners as well as those who wish to transition from water based mediums such as acylics or watercolour.
The workshop consists of 4 x 3-hour sessions, with an optional 5th session available at no extra cost.
Our midweek version condenses into 4 x 2-hour sessions and also with a complimentary 5th session.
- This class serves as a comprehensive introduction to the basic principles of working with oil paint.
- Whether you are new to painting or already familiar with other mediums, this workshop offers a chance to delve into the world of oil painting.
Throughout the class, you will learn how to:
- Understand and apply colour theory in your paintings
- Explore the versatility of oil paint as a medium
- Compose an oil painting through three primary stages
1st Session - Composition; shapes, form, light & shade, 3D illusions and outlining the design
2nd Session - Defining the principle base painting; tonal values, highlights & lowlights
3rd Session - Adding colour; colour theory & the laws of mixing
4th Session - Glaze coating
5th Session - (Optional & can be mid-week or weekend) Fine tuning & additional glaze coat
