Join this hands-on introduction to the traditional craft of paper marbling in Bristol, held in an intimate, well-appointed studio environment.
You’ll begin with an introduction to colour, tools, and traditional techniques. The session starts with a brief overview of the materials and historical context, followed by a guided demonstration of pigment preparation and surface manipulation.
After the demonstration, you’ll get to prepare your very own marbling bath. Then, you’ll float pigments on the surface, learning how to coax them into beautiful swirls, flowers, and patterns using templates. You'll then capture your designs by transferring them to paper, producing your own one-of-a-kind marbled sheets.
You will leave with a new understanding of this historic process and a set of your own beautiful, unique prints to take home.
