On this practical, hands-on 2 day course you will learn to use traditional wood carving techniques to create a high quality carving.
The course will cover everything you need to know to begin wood carving. Learn the functions of different chisels; understand the shapes and numbering system. Learn the different techniques required to make a range of cuts. Discover which are the best chisel brands, where to obtain the wood and tools. Learn how to get the chisels shaving sharp and the pros and cons of different sharpening systems on the market.
No previous experience is required; you will be able to work at your own pace on a range of potential projects suitable for different experience levels. Stage-by-stage instructions and demonstrations will guide you through every element of the process towards a high quality finished carving.
All tools, materials, equipment and project ideas are provided.
The course runs from 10am - 4pm, over 2 consecutive days. Taught by Geraint Lloyd a professional sculptor and PGCE qualified teacher with 25 years experience.
Our workshop space is within the historic Model Farm complex of the beautiful stately home of Chillington Hall. We work outside in the historic courtyard in good weather, or indoors in the large exposed beam barn studio space.
