“It was such a relaxed atmosphere in Simon`s and Hanna`s teching kitchen! Even though it was rather tricky to get it right -- candying fruit isn`t easy -- with my teachers` help I even managaed to start learning some of the decorating tricks -- drizzling boiling sugar in ornamental patterns on the surface of the freshly candied fruit. These my initial efforts were certainly not flawless. But I did reasonably well, and most importantly, I now feel confident that I will be able to continue practising the art of Tanghulu at home, in my own kitchen! Not only was this fantstic cooking class -- how tp prepare the fruit. Beyond teaching Tanghulu, Simon managed to convey the history and context of Chinese customs and celebrations. So I felt that a window opened up to me into the fascinating history of Ancient China and into the culture of Chinese celeprations of today. Such a delightful course! I have already booked another class with Simon and Hanna and I look forward to learning more about Chinese sweets and Chinese food culture.”
