This is a fun activity in Altrincham, Manchester
Join sumi-e artist Jasmine Lau from Kapok House for an authentic children’s sumi-e painting workshop in Manchester. This beginner-friendly session introduces young artists to the calming and expressive art of traditional Japanese ink painting. This workshop happens once a month with a different theme every time. It's perfect to book as a single workshop or join us every month.
Designed for children aged 7–11, this workshop offers a gentle and mindful introduction to sumi-e. Through guided practice, children will learn how simple brush movements can create beautiful, expressive artwork.
**What to expect:**
- Learn about the traditional “Four Treasures” of sumi-e: brush, ink, paper, and inkstone.
- Practise brush techniques and pressure to create flowing lines.
- Paint various natural-inspired subjects of the day's theme on rice paper.
- Explore focus and creativity through mindful, single-stroke painting.
- Seal finished paintings with a traditional red artist chop!
By the end of the session, each child will leave with one or two finished sumi-e paintings and a memorable introduction to this beautiful, calming art form.
