This is a fun activity in Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle

Linocut printmaking is a relief printing technique where artists carve into a sheet of linoleum, ink the raised parts, and then press paper or fabric onto it to transfer the design, similar to a stamp.

We also have Mastercarve material, which is an eraser-like material that comes in sheets, perfect for making stamps and easy to carve. There is an option to add balsa wood to the back of your stamp to make it easier to hold and press onto a surface.

Tuition will be offered at every session to those who would like it. This is also an environment where you can carve at your own speed, get absorbed in the process, and use Incubate's presses, tools, and materials at your leisure.

The sessions are led by local artist Nick Christie and are completely open to beginners as well as linocut veterans. Nick will provide tuition in the linocut technique, starting with the very basic methods of carving, inking, and printing lino relief blocks. This can then lead to more advanced techniques for those who would like it, such as reduction lino for multiple colours.

Lino cutting can be as simple or as complicated as you would like it to be. It can be pretty absorbing once you get going!

In these sessions, you can make fine art prints, cards, t-shirts, fabric hangings, pretty much anything that you can imagine stamping onto. We have water-based and oil-based inks and a wide range of colours. You will have access to an etching press and a Pookie press for printing. You will also be shown the best ways to print by hand using a baren, wooden spoon, and other tools for when you would like to print yourself at home.

Materials are included, such as a lino block (varying sizes), 10 sheets of paper, and enough ink to make 10 prints per session, with the option to purchase more.

I had a lovely time at the linocut club! Nick was a great instructor and talked us through the whole process as a few of us were beginners. There was lots of materials to use and get stuck in! Looking forward to going again soon and trying something more detailed!

This was so much fun! Everything was explained so well and I was proud of what I managed to make even though I hadn't done any linocutting in years. 100% recommend, I'll be back :)

This linocut club was a great experience! Beginner-friendly. Nick provided ideas to work on, explained the whole process and gave tips and examples for a great lino print. Nick was very welcoming and fun to learn from. I really enjoyed seeing and doing the whole process and using the press to create some prints of the linocut I had made.
