At Columbia Road Clay we consider every aspect of making, including minimising energy and material waste in our studio. We minimise water usage and use low-fire clays that require significantly less energy to fire. To further our environmentally-conscious studio practices we offer two ticket options:

£60 for an experience-focused class, the most environmentally-friendly option. For those who just want to have fun making a pot but don't want it to be fired. No worries if you decide you’d like to keep your pots the day of, the £15 per pot firing and shipping fee can be paid at the end of the class.

£75 ticket to keep one of your lovely pots! The studio will glaze fire and ship your sweet pot to you in ~4weeks. Select your favourite at the end of the session as a sweet memento of your throwing experience. Best of all, we’ll send it right to your door so no need to worry about travelling back to the studio to collect. We had excellent afternoon at the Throwing Taster class help at the Columbia Road Clay workshop. Our tutor was so helpful at each stage of process. There were 8 in the group so she had an skilled assistant for us all. Our finished pots were surprisingly good for beginners and we look forward to receiving after the kiln process is completed. A perfect messy fun course and an excellent gift for family and friends.

A very enjoyable afternoon. Informative, patient teacher who made it all look so easy! Great to get messy with clay. Yes, it does get everywhere!! Whilst the end result of pots and bowls may be simple there is a great sense of achievement. All in all, a super experience. As an extra, going on a Sunday and spending a couple of hours in Columbia Road flower market was a special treat.

Meli was a wonderful and patient teacher! We were all complete beginners in the class, and everyone wanted to do something slightly different. She walked us through step-by-step, then guided us as we gave it a go ourselves, then she let us roam free but was always on hand as we were about to ruin our pieces! It was really helpful to go through our first piece as a class, and then being left to our own devices. She gave us so many tips and techniques - I was blown away by the fact that I actually LIKED my pieces as a first-time-trier, and it’s because Meli gave such great instructions! When I was stuck with how to make the shape I wanted, she talked me through what to do, and voila! Thank you so much, Meli - I’d love to try pottery throwing again! I think the class was the right size too, and very easy to get to considering I don’t live in London!

Such a lovely class with incredibly kind and knowledgeable teaching! Also really enjoyed the setup of the class, it felt friendly and intimate with lots of hands on tips. I think I learnt more in this class than many others in London, and I felt like I was encouraged to have fun with it rather than pressure to learn straight away. Would highly recommend!
