This is a fun activity in Millwall, London
An observational linocut printmaking workshop in London inspired by everyday objects, nature, architecture, people, and the stories hidden within our surroundings. Each workshop is centred around a specific theme, such as Everyday Objects & Rituals, Botanical Studies, Architecture & Urban Landscapes, Portraits & People, or Friends with Paws.
You don't need any print making experience to join. Guided by the theme, you'll develop your own original design through observation and sketching.
**What to expect:**
- An introduction to key design principles, including composition, positive and negative space, line quality, forms, and silhouettes.
- Learn how to observe shapes and translate them into strong visual compositions.
- Master the fundamentals of linocut printmaking and a little bit of its history, covering the tools, materials, safety guidance, and a range of carving techniques.
- Learn how to create different marks, textures, and visual effects using traditional relief printing methods.
- Transfer your design onto a linoleum block and begin carving under step-by-step guidance!
- Ink your block and experiment with hand-printing techniques to produce a series of prints.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with your own hand-carved linocut block which you can use plenty more times after and a collection of printed pieces, which can be used as greeting cards, mini posters, gift wrap, or framed artwork.
