If you've never tried painting with batik dyes before, don't worry! This class is ideal for beginners and you'll be taken through the stages and materials step by step by experienced teacher, Barbara. Calm and patient with a sense of humour – Barbara will show you how to use hot waxes and dyes to create some lovely artwork.
Using mainly beeswax and a mixture of paraffin or soy wax for different techniques, you'll learn to create different effects. The wax is drawn onto stretched cotton fabric with a special tool called a tjanting, as well as other mark making tools, then the highly pigmented dyes are applied, the wax is removed by ironing it out to reveal a white crisp outline and a picture with a difference.
This is a relaxed class for beginners to explore and experiment, you will be amazed at what you will achieve! You'll take away two unique sample pieces made by you that will look lovely framed, as well as a finished 16 x 16 inch (approx.) picture.
