This is a fun activity in Brixton Hill, London

Looking for something fun and special for your child during the school holidays? Join us for a hands-on West African cookery class timed to mark International Jollof Day — the most hotly contested food holiday on the calendar.
Designed for young cooks aged 13 to 17, this class is a fully participatory experience. Children cook together at a shared station, working through each dish side by side from start to finish.
Whether your child is a confident home cook or has never held a spoon, our instructors will guide you both through every step with warmth and plenty of encouragement.

What they'll learn
Build a smoky tomato base - Your young cook will learn how to build the signature smoky flavour that transforms the finished rice.
Master your grains - Together you will learn the perfect rice-to-liquid ratio and the steaming method that delivers perfectly cooked grains every single time.
Explore regional variations - Discover the key elements to making Nigerian jollof and why it differs from other countries.
Pick the perfect plantain - Learn how to read ripeness, control the heat and achieve that deep amber caramelisation.

What they'll make
Nigerian jollof rice - Fragrant, perfectly seasoned rice with that signature red colour and crispy bottom layer.
5 spice chicken - Learn about traditional Nigerian spices and marinate your chicken in a dry rub. A vegan alternative is available.
Nigerian-style coleslaw - Cool and creamy with a gentle sharpness, perfect for cutting through the heat of everything else.
Fried plantain - Sweet and caramelised at the edges, deep amber on the outside and soft all the way through.

What they'll eat
Your feast - Nigerian jollof rice with your choice of protein based on dietary requirements, Nigerian 5 -spice chicken or vegan alternative, coleslaw and fried plantain.
Your drink - Choose from Zobo (hibiscus, ginger, pineapple) or Chapman (cucumber, orange, lemon, blackcurrant). Water is provided throughout.
