“I really wanted to love this terrarium-making class, and there were some genuinely lovely elements, but overall it didn’t quite feel aligned with the $80 price point for me.
Some highlights: the complimentary drink from the café was a thoughtful touch - I had a matcha and it was delicious. The person running the class was also very kind, approachable, and happy to help when asked.
There were a few challenges that impacted the experience.
The jars used had quite small openings, which made planting tricky and almost impossible for the person I attended with who has larger hands.
The instructions also weren’t very clear, with an iPad image shown to us and some quick verbal instructions, taking about 90 seconds all up..most of us ended up figuring things out together at the table as we went along. Having made terrariums before, I was able to help, but clearer guidance would have been beneficial.
There were no tools provided to assist with the build (such as tweezers or small spoons), which would have made the process much easier and cleaner.
Hygiene-wise, with soil and charcoal on the table and drinks being served at the same time, it was a bit difficult to keep things tidy without gloves, aprons, or table coverings.
Decor-wise, the initial selection felt quite limited and not especially Christmas-themed. When we asked, some lovely festive additions were brought out and generously shared, but it would have been great to have these available from the start to spark creativity.
Overall, it was a friendly and pleasant experience, but the combination of jar choice, limited tools, minimal instructions, and materials made it feel a little overpriced. With a few thoughtful tweaks - such as better tools, clearer instructions (you could print out the instructions, inspiration and aftercare?), and more themed decorations - this could become a really special class. It just wasn't for me, unfortunately.”
