I just had the most incredible pottery experience at Adewole Arts, and I'm still buzzing with creative energy! Located inside CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, this hidden gem sits in an amazing waterfront location surrounded by handmade and vintage vendors that make the whole experience feel special before you even walk in.
April Adewole is not just an artist – she's a creative wizard who has built what I can only describe as a "Creative Kitchen" filled with love, beautiful colors, and perfect lighting. Her studio feels like stepping into a peaceful, special world where stress melts away and creativity flows freely. Honestly, calling it "clay therapy" isn't an exaggeration – it's exactly what this experience provides!
Our hand-sculpting clay class was incredibly hands-on, and April's teaching style is both patient and inspiring. She's clearly mastered multiple techniques (pottery wheel, including an adorable tiny wheel, fused glass, and hand sculpting), and her passion for sharing these skills is infectious. What I loved most was how attentive she was to each student's vision – she genuinely wants to help you create the coolest piece you have in mind, not just follow a template.
The studio showcases April's amazing handmade pieces, which are absolutely stunning and give you inspiration for your own creations. The small class sizes mean you get real personal attention and can actually learn meaningful techniques. Plus, knowing that my finished piece will be professionally fired and ready for pickup in a couple weeks makes this feel like a complete artistic journey.
I also love that April offers mobile pottery classes – what a unique way to bring this therapeutic creative experience to your own space with friends! The fact that the studio is only open to the public on weekends makes it feel even more special and exclusive.

“We had so much fun in this class. April is very knowledgeable with the different types of clay and styles of crafting. She answered all of our questions and patiently demonstrated and explained the process of working with the tools and our hands. I created a stash jar and painted it orange. It will take 4-6 weeks to get it back once it’s been fired. I’m looking forward to the outcome. The location and warehouse are beautiful. I definitely recommend this class to anyone that wants to explore pottery and working with their hands. I think it’s I found my new hobby.”
