“my experience in this workshop was not what i expected. there are lots of good reviews so i thought it seemed reputable, and i was very excited to make some mini ceramic “ultra-realistic food replicas” (direct quote from their website btw).
when we arrived, the instructor teaching a different class told us where we were sitting and said that we could get started rolling out the clay while we waited for the other two classmates to join. i have never worked with ceramic clay before so i had no clue how thick to make it or how to fix it when the clay stuck to the roller and kept ripping. once the other two attendees arrived, the instructor said that it was basically independent work, and that we could make whatever food we wanted, or we could make items other than food. she said that if we wanted ideas we could check her pinterest, and if we wanted she could show us how to make a croissant by rolling up a triangle of clay. the class description says that it is “perfect for beginners” and that no experience is required.
the description also says that daisy would be the instructor, but when a classmate asked the instructor if she was daisy, she said no. it didn’t seem like daisy was present at all, and i think the instructor who helped us was not even scheduled to be doing our class maybe?
on top of that, the only lighting in the apartment that the workshop took place in was a small chandelier that did not give off enough light, and i could barely even see what i was making. I’m sorry, but i’d think that in an arts and crafts workshop where we are making and painting miniatures they would prioritize being able to see the colors I’m using and what i’m crafting over the vibes?? speaking of paint, most of the bottles were empty or completely dry to the point that we couldn’t even use them. the clay we were given was also very dry and had been left out for a while, which i wouldn’t have even known if the instructor didn’t mention it multiple times.
me, my friend, and the other two attendees struggled for about 40 minutes without any instruction or help, when the instructor told us we should start painting if we hadn’t already because it was almost 7 so the class would be over soon. when i booked this workshop on class bento, the time said 6:15 - 7:30. the text message i received from the class host said 6:15 - 7:15. the instructor thought we came at 6 and had until 7. so not only did we have NO INSTRUCTOR, they were also rushing us out. i don’t know if they had another class after or if the people who lived in the apartment just wanted us out (i mean, we could hear their baby crying in the other room and one of the residents was going in and out during our class so i wouldn’t be shocked), but by the end, i was just slapping colors that i couldn’t even see onto the random pieces i struggled to even finish.
after we left, i went back on class bento to see if maybe we misread something, but the workshop had been removed from the site, which seems really weird and shady honestly. i see now that it says the class is ‘on hold,’ and i also can see that it clearly states the class time as 75 minutes, so when we finished around 7:20, we actually didn’t get 10 minutes of work time that we were supposed to get.
other reviews mention that daisy gave great hands on instruction, so I’m just frustrated and disappointed because i did not get what i payed for. whenever they contact me to come get my pieces, i’ll go back to see how they turned out, but i won’t get my hopes up.”
“Had a great experience at this workshop, the instructor Daisy a wonderful person and gave us plenty of time to complete the clay miniatures. Great communication when it was time to pick up and considering these were kiln fired, the turnaround was very fast. So pleased with the result!”
“If you’re looking for a laidback but fun date night idea, this is it!! My partner and I have been wanting to try pottery for a while now. We also love cute and mini things, so this class just made sense. Daisy was super helpful as our instructor, guiding us through all the techniques and tools used for sculpting and painting. The studio was in a cozy environment. What I liked was that there were other pottery classes happening simultaneously, but it wasn’t overwhelming at all; if anything, it contributed to a happy environment that promoted a sense of community. We’ll be sure to come back at a future date. Couldn’t recommend this more!!!”
