Putting in flat backs without the applicator can be kinda tricky. I'm so sorry that it was a frustrating experience! We do have a guide on how to insert the flat backs at the bottom of our listings but I'll pass along to our team that we need more info about the applicator tool elsewhere.
As for the flat back coming loose, were you able to adjust the bend in the pin when you received it? I ask because flat backs stay secure through an adjustable tension bond.
