“This review might make me look a little bad, but in the interest of helping someone else, here we go. About four years ago we decided to get a new mattress, which turned into the longest journey of my life. First, we bought a Tempur-Pedic cooling mattress. It never softened up, no matter what we tried with books, weights, or breaking it in. We traded it for another Tempur-Pedic with the same problem, so we gave that one to our daughter. Next, we tried a super high-end Stearns & Foster. It wrecked my husband’s shoulder, so back it went. Then we split into two separate mattresses in split kings from different brands, but both sagged in the center even though we are both healthy weights. We figured the split design was the problem, so those got moved to the guest room. After that came a Beautyrest Black. It had me in tears. It was fine for my husband, but way too firm for me. We swapped it for a pillow-top Beautyrest, which worked for me but made his shoulder surgery and herniated disc in his back miserable. Back to square one. I mean we cannot just trade on who suffers, you know? That is when I stumbled on Engineered Sleep in an obscure forum. I dug into the research and discovered they offer a split king design where the bottom has two different comfort levels but shares one continuous top layer. That means no annoying crack down the middle and the topper can be customized in a lot of ways too. We gave it a shot, and finally we found success. My husband and I each have our own comfort level on the bottom (mine is set on the softer side, his on the firm), but we do not deal with the topper sinking into separate sides since its one unit. We went w/ the latex plus and there is some alignment of my hips Im still trying to get right so they sent out a memory plus in a free one time exchange and were very kind about it. In any case, after all of that, this has been a great balance between two people with different needs. Should be in ALL the stores!”

“We have had this mattress for about 8 months now, and it is still wonderful and in as good of shape as the day we got it. Because we like different things, the ability to turn the mattress so that we can have different levels of firmness is what we have needed all along. I will never buy from another company ever again.”

“I have never written a product review online, but had to for this mattress. I've been searching for a new mattress for 5 months, and slept on 4 other trial mattresses before this one. I was losing sleep (and my mind) trying to find one that worked. I found The Mattress Underground website while on my 4th trial mattress, and from there found this highly rated company. After determining memory foam is too hot for me now, and that I preferred laying slightly on top of a mattress rather than sinking in, I landed on this latex option. I even spoke to someone from ES via text and they helped me figure out that the latex plus would be a good choice for me. I was nervous about latex just because I had never slept on something like it before and didn't know how motion transfer would be compared to previous memory foam options. Just buy it. It is so comfortable. I sleep on my side, and my husband sleeps on his side/back, and we both sleep more deeply than we ever have and never want to get out of bed. Motion transfer is not a problem at all. It is soft without being too soft/still has a perfect amount of support. The only negative here is that I have 2 small kids and don't get to spend nearly as much time in in as I want to. It's that good. This company and product is top notch. I hope they're still around, doing the same thing the next time I am buying a mattress (but based on reviews about the quality and longevity of their products, this likely won't be for a very long time).”

“Outstanding customer service! Custom changes to coils have solved my back pain When I purchased my XL Twin mattress 3.5 years ago, I needed the cushioning for my joints provided by the 2” latex top, plus the flexibility of the Duo for use on a fairly old hospital bed frame. Unfortunately, I did not realize at the time of purchase that I could/should have requested that the same firmer coils used along the edges also be used throughout the entire mattress. My back needed more support than the standard duo provided on its firmest side, and recently I had often been unable to spend an entire night on this bed. When Davis asked if I would submit a review, I explained my situation and indicated that I would prefer not to do so, since I didn’t want to mislead anyone about what might very well be my unique situation. I suspected that the flat springs in my hospital bed frame might have weakened with age and be at least a partial source of my back issues. His response: “Can we come and replace [the mattress] for you—with the firmer option?” Of course I accepted. The new mattress arrived 2 weeks later—and I haven’t had a single backache during the night since then!”
